Internal Family Systems

A deeply compassionate way of understanding your inner world, where nothing about you is treated as pathology and every part is doing its best to protect you.

Internal Family Systems is an evidence-based model that sees the mind as a natural system made up of distinct parts, guided by a core Self that was never damaged by what happened to you.

Instead of reading symptoms as defects, IFS assumes every part of you carries a valuable, protective intention — including the parts you like least.

How it works

01

Meeting your protectors

Inner critics, people-pleasers, anxiety, and impulses are parts working hard to keep you safe, keep life running, or keep you at a distance from pain.

02

Meeting the parts they protect

Beneath the protectors are more vulnerable parts carrying old pain, shame, or fear. We approach them slowly, only when the protectors are ready.

03

Returning to the core Self

You are guided into your own Self — the calm, curious, compassionate place from which the rest of the work becomes possible.

04

Unburdening

From the Self, you extend understanding to protective parts so they can soften, allowing the pain held by vulnerable parts to be released rather than managed.

What it can help with

Nothing about you is the problem
Inner conflict, guilt, and self-doubt are reframed with understanding instead of judgment.
Self-leadership
You become your own internal healer, leading your life with calm, clarity, courage, and confidence rather than by force.
Less internal war
Opposing feelings — wanting to move forward while something in you holds back — can begin to work together instead of against each other.

Who it’s for

  • Living with harsh self-criticism, shame, anxiety, or constant inner conflict.
  • Recovering from trauma, childhood wounds, grief, or addiction.
  • Wanting a respectful, non-judgmental way to understand complex emotions and long-standing patterns.

Not sure whether this is the right fit?

We can talk it through first. Nothing is decided in advance — the approach is chosen with you, at your pace.
